New wood - coup 1 |
1998 |
| Coup 1 trees to centre left of the image in autumn with prominent larch to the fore. 1998 followed two very dry years where site rainfall had averaged 26 inches and tree growth had been restricted. | |
| 2001 | |
| Almost the same view illustrating three years of growth since the previous image. Regular ride maintenance has led to a more structured sward in the rideway that reduces the ingress of invasive weeds from nearby. | |
| 2003 | |
| Further growth with the larch and cherry dominating the race skywards. However, a more interesting battle is occurring in the heart of the coup with the oak at last beginning to show some signs of vigour - the developing woodland ecosystem is beginning to favour the climax species. | ![]() |
