New wood - coup 4

1999

Coup 4 to the right hand side of the image. At this point inter-row mowing with a mini tractor is still possible with old man's beard and ragwort being the most important that are controlled.
   
2001
The view from outside. The deer fence protects both the new woodland and the existing restored coppice.
   
2002
The pruning of beech, cherry and ash has now been carried out. Apart from improving the form of the tree, pruning exposes a thick mat of old man's beard that can now be more readily controlled.
   
2003
Cutting the ride between coups 3 and 4 and......
   
.....six months later it has regrown! The regenerative power of our deciduous trees is exposed.
